I have been natural for 16 yrs. I have recently cut off my locks about 2 mths ago, which were about down to the tip of my waist line. I realize that the weight has caused some balding areas as well as just stress on the hair that may take some time. This article is very helpful, however it speaks to growing the hair. I want to keep my hair short for a while its about 2 inches long. I am looking for something that can loosen my curls and shine my hair. I have been using Nu Expressions scalp care in a white and gold bottle. It smells really good and it makes my hair really soft. Still does not loosen the curl. By half way through the morning my hair is dry and has shrunk back to its original state. Any suggestions.
Hello how are you?, my brother and I are both trying to go natural but me and him having problems. His hair is getting bald spots and he suffering from trying to have it grow. I had cut my hair a while ago and my top is long and my back is short. Ppl believe it won’t grow back at all but I don’t believe that. I use to think that having natural hair was not cool but now I want my hair to be longer and fuller. We have dry hair and it’s dull looking and lifeless. I understand what this article is saying but idk where to start for some reason because I process things differently. We heard that getting organic, unrefined, and cold pressed products are better. Is that true? How can I get my hair long and fuller like some natural ladies online? I cry because I don’t regret cutting my hair but I regret not keeping it as well. I have shared my favorite all natural deep conditioner on the blog, and it’s really great for giving some love to your scalp. It’s not a daily conditioner, though. For daily conditioning I stick with a simple apple cider vinegar rinse (ACV). I use a cleansing bottle (like this) and put 1 – 2 TBS of apple cider vinegar and then fill the rest with filtered water. Since I have really short hair I don’t need a lot. I’ll just squirt some on my scalp, massage it in, and then let it sit for 20 – 30 seconds before rinsing out. It makes my hair feel really good!

My hair is always wrapped in either a cotton head scarf or silk scarf. Throughout the year my hair is mostly in box braids for at the most 3 months and in Afro form for 1 month. I wash my hair in braid every 2 weeks. My mom says my hair doesn’t grow because my grandmas also doesn’t grow – implying that it’s something I’ve inherited. I’d like to believe that this can’t be true and I hope it doesn’t mean that I should give up on my hair length goals just because it’s something I’ve “inherited”

Hey Kate. Im 16 and I’ve been transitioning since April 2013. The back of my hair is natural but the front still has some relaxed ends. I get braids & leave them in for 2 or 3 months. & I oil my scalp 2 twice a Week. When I take my hair out I usually get blowouts at a Dominican salon & have them cut off some of my ends. This helps you not have to big chop until you have enough growth


Hi there – I would recommend using a clarifying shampoo to remove product buildup if any. Follow up with a moisturizing deep conditioner. From there, every 1-2 days, use the LOC or LOC method to moisturize your hair (try both to see which one works best for your hair). Wash your hair with a gentle shampoo and use a moisturizing deep conditioner every week. Follow the directions on the packaging. Avoid silicones. Examine your ends every 6-8 weeks and trim if needed. Use a gentle clarifying shampoo once a month or so. There is so much info out there about various routines, but this is a simple start that you can add to and adjust as you go. Keeping a journal to track what works and what doesn’t is great advice. Best of luck!

Damage to the hair must be trimmed away or grown out. For example, there is not a permanent cure for split-ends. There are some conditioners that can essentially patch split-ends and make them less visible, but over a period of time those split-ends will reappear. The only way to permanently get rid of your split-ends is to trim them away. You should absolutely never burn away your split-ends.

The United States is a republic – a constitutional republic where people believe that they can govern themselves.
